First Meeting notes

Thanks to those folks that attended the first broadband planning meeting on Monday. We had an interesting discussion about the opportunities for service providers, and talked at some length about some of the new and emerging technologies, including advances in wireless and the now very affordable fiber to the home and fiber to the business opportunities.

In the coming years, the towns, businesses, schools, and local governments of Smyth County will spend several hundred million dollars on telecommunications services. This planning process will look at ways to reduce the cost of telecom services (telephone, TV, and Internet) while getting more and better services.

We particularly need to hear from the business community about current and future businesses needs and applications, so please plan to attend future meetings. Your input will help shape the planning process.

Best regards,
Andrew
